What you need to understand is that for a lot of artists, the art is in the performance, not the writing. Not everyone who is a talented musician is also a talented writer. It doesn't necessarily mean they care any more or less about their work or their fans. There are a lot of legendary artists who only co-wrote some of their music, if that. You're only considering artists you like as "legitimate," and that's not fair.

No, I consider artists who write their own music legitimate.
If someone in the actual band writes it, even if it's not the singer, it's still the artist's writing.
But like, when Ozzy had Lemmy from Motorhead come in to write for him, that album was bullshit, that's not an Ozzy album, and I hate that album.
Or, The Beatles. Just because it's John and Paul, doesn't mean it's illegitimate.

But when you have Kara DioGuardia as a ghost writer for a shitload of your music (looked up Kara's writing credits when I saw her on American Idol), and you write maybe one or two songs, you can't be considered a legitimate artist, you're piggybacking on the talent of someone who was hired to do your work for you.

I could never really get into celebrity gossip. And I've tried a few times because I had a bunch of friends who liked to talk about it, but I couldn't get into any of the websites or magazines. On the bright side, they liked that they could tell me all about it because chances are I haven't heard yet haha.

No, I hate rap music, but a lot of rappers are legitimate artists, because they write their own material.

Kanye West? I hate that fucker, because he thinks he's better than Elvis, The Beatles, and Jimi Hendrix. But he writes his own rhymes, and that makes him legit.
Lil Wayne? Hate him, he makes a mockery out of guitar playing the way he plays. But he writes his own music, so he's legitimate.
If you find me a rapper or a pop artist who writes their own shit, I probably won't like them, but I'll think they're legit.
